Huka Falls
The Huka Falls is New Zealand's most visited natural attraction. The
thundering Huka Falls is just a short journey from the waters of Lake Taupo,
the beginning of The Mighty Waikato River. More than 220,000 litres of water
tumbles over the cliff face of Huka Falls per second ! |

Aratiatia Rapids
Daily at 10am 12 noon and 2pm and in summer, 4pm. At a rate of 90,000
litres per second, water rushes down the Aratiatia Rapids.
If you are a few minutes early, look over the bridge, down to a pond that
is home to huge river trout. 40 have been counted at any one time. |

Craters of the Moon
This is a dynamic thermal area of bubbling craters, mud pools and steam
vents. |
Waipahihi Botanical
Gardens
The 35 ha reserve is a refuge for bird life with 2000 rhododendrons,
azaleas and camellias. There are walkways and picnic areas with lake and
mountain views. |

Tongariro National Trout
Centre
Just south of Turangi, the Tongariro National Trout Centre is a great place
to visit and learn about the world of trout at Taupo. |

Tongariro National Park walks and
hikes
A magnificent World Heritage Area. This is the filming location of MT
Doom in Lord of the Rings. Director, New Zealand's own Peter Jackson.
The still active volcano, Mount Ruapehu served as other
parts of Mordor, including the battlefield scene on the slopes of Mt. Doom. |
